Detailed Solution

Each unit cell in a CCP (Cubic Close Packed) structure contains 4 atoms.

The CCP structure is also called the face-centered cubic (FCC) structure. In this arrangement, atoms are placed at the corners and at the centers of all the faces of the cube. Each corner atom is shared by 8 cubes, and each face-centered atom is shared by 2 cubes. By calculating contributions, the total comes to 4 atoms per unit cell.

Calculation:

  • Corner atoms: 8 × (1/8) = 1 atom
  • Face-centered atoms: 6 × (1/2) = 3 atoms
  • Total = 1 + 3 = 4 atoms per unit cell
