Detailed Solution

The Northern Plains can be divided into four regions based on variations in relief features. They are khadar, bhabar, terai, and bhangar.
Bhabar regions are formed when the rivers flowing from the mountains leave pebbles in a thin band that is 8 to 16 km wide and moves parallel to the Shiwaliks' slopes. The streams and rivers reemerge south of this bhabar belt, forming a wet, marshy area known as terai. Older alluvium makes up the majority of the northern plain. It displays a terrace-like feature and is located above the floodplains of the rivers. Bhangar is the name of this area. Khadar is the newest alluvial deposit and is suitable for intensive farming.
