There were around twelve Dakshinapathas. They were the southern region's twelve kingdoms and included the modern-day Deccan Plateau area. The lord of the Dakshinapatha was considered the Satavahana dynasty, especially Gautamiputra Satakarni. Samudragupta once defeated all the twelve kingdoms which came under the Dakshinapatha. But he allowed all the kings to reign in their territories, but they had to recognise him as the ultimate king and submit their revenue collection to his kingdom on time. In the well-known prashasti known as "Prayag Prashasti," which details the proof of Samudragupta's victory over the Dakshinapatha, the conquering of the Dakshinapatha is described.
