Detailed Solution

One-third of the seats are reserved for women in the gram panchayat.
This constitutional status in local self-government has helped to deepen democracy in our country by giving women, who are considered a marginalised section in the society, an opportunity to participate in governance. It becomes the voice of people and increases their participation. The Constitution of India has a three tier system of governance - the Central Government, the State Government, and the local self-government. Decentralisation of power was recognized by the constitution through a constitutional amendment made in 1992. India became a three-tier democracy by this democracy. The amendment was created at the village level - Gram panchayat, at the block level-  Block Samiti, and the district level- Zila Parishad. Moreover, it provided for 33.33 percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions.
