Detailed Solution

1/3 rd seats are reserved for women in the Panchayati Raj system and Municipalities.
In India, the number of women in governing authorities has been deficient. For instance, in 2009, the level of women in Lok Sabha crossed 10% of its total strength for the first time.
Women constitute less than 5% of the share in state assemblies. India is running behind several nations in terms of women's empowerment. On the other hand, only male members seem to dominate the cabinet, where the chances of becoming a female Chief Minister or Prime minister are even less.
One of the ways to eliminate such non-uniformity is to implement policies for an equal proportion in legislatures. Thus, the Panchayati Raj System took the initial step by reserving one-third of seats out of the total seats for women in Municipal Corporations and Panchayats.
