Detailed Solution

1760-2000 sleepers are required for each mile of the railway track.
Since the 1850s, as railways expanded, there has been a new demand. Railroads were crucial for the mobility of imperial armies and for colonial trade. Wood was required as fuel for locomotives, and sleepers were used to assemble railway tracks. Between 1,760 and 2,000 sleepers were needed for every mile of the railway track. The railway network rapidly grew to start in the 1860s. By 1890, some 25,500 km of track had been constructed. By 1946, the length of the rails had increased to more than 765,000 km. More trees fell as the railway lines spread across India.
