Detailed Solution

321 steam Engines were there at the beginning of the nineteenth century all over England. The first steam engine was invented or produced by Thomas Newcomen, which was later improved by James Watt in the year 1781. It was then manufactured by his industrialist friend, Matthew Boulton, but for years, Boulton could not find any buyers. Initially, there were not more than 321 steam engines all over England at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Of these, 80 were in cotton industries, nine in wool industries, and the rest in mining, canal works, and iron works. Steam engines did not come to much use in any of the other industries till much later in the century.
