Detailed Solution

The taste buds are stimulated by oral substances. These are found in fungiform papillae on the tongue's tip and foliate and vallate papillae on the tongue's rear in the pig, as they are in most animals. However, the pig differs from most mammals in that it has more taste buds than most species, including humans. Thus, a farmed pig has at least 10,000 vallate taste buds, compared to 6000 vallate taste buds in humans and about 4,800 foliate taste buds in humans.
