Detailed Solution

80,000 tigers were killed in India between 1875 and 1925.
While the forest rules took away people's traditional hunting right to hunt, hunting big animals became a pastime. Tiger and other animal hunting have long been a part of royal and nobility tradition in India. Princes and emperors enjoying a hunt are seen in numerous Mughal art. Close to eighty thousand tigers were killed between 1875 and 1925. However, during colonial administration, hunting intensity rose to the point where several species were on the verge of extinction. The British perceived giant animals were indicators of an untamed, brutal society. They thought the British would civilise India by murdering the savage animals. Because they presented a threat to cultivators, they offered incentives for the slaughter of tigers, wolves, and other huge creatures.
