Detailed Solution

Ahmad Shah Abdali invaded North India five times between 1748 and 1767.
A civil war even broke out among the unscrupulous and power-hungry nobility in the wake of Muhammad Shah's death in 1748. Additionally, the Empire was decimated by the repeated assaults of Ahmed Shah Abdali, one of Nadir Shah's most capable generals. They had established his power over Afghanistan after his master's death due to the weakening of the north-western defences. Between 1748 and 1767, Abdali invaded and pillaged northern India five times, all the way to Delhi and Mathura. Finally, Abdali's victory over the Maratha at the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761 seriously blew their plans to dominate the nation by seizing control of the Mughal Emperor.
