Three types of party systems exist. The three types of party systems are- single-party system, bi-party system, and multi-party system. In a single-party system, there is only one ruling party and no opposition party. China has a single-party system according to which Communist Party rules the country.
Whereas in the bi-party system, two major parties have a chance of forming the government. An example of a bi-party system is the United States, where there are two major parties; Republican Party and Democratic Party. In a multi-party system, several parties participate in an election, and more than two parties have the chance of winning the elections. India has a multi-party system.
