Detailed Solution

Four types of taxes were allowed under the Holy Islamic Law during the Delhi Sultanate period. Land revenue served as the primary source of state income in the Sultanate. There were four types of taxes: jizya, kharaj, khams, and zakat. The tax on agriculture or cultivation was known as kharaj, and it amounted to around 50% of the produce by peasants; the tax that was paid by the non-Muslim subjects of the kingdom was known as jizya; khams was a tax on the war booty that was captured during battle and had to be paid 20% on all the captured items; zakat was an obligatory tax paid by the Muslims of the kingdom, zakat was 2.5% of the personal possessions.
