Detailed Solution

Four wars were fought between Mysore and the British.
Tipu Sultan and his father, Haider Ali, both were powerful rulers of Mysore and strengthened their state militarily and economically. Malabar coast trade was under the control of Mysore. The company purchased pepper and cardamom from there. Tipu Sultan stopped every trade or export of pepper, sandalwood, and cardamom from his kingdom's port. He even stopped local merchants from trading with the British. Moreover, he helped the French to grow and modernise their army in India because of their good relations. The British saw them as their powerful enemies who should be controlled. Thus, they fought four wars with Mysore and won only the last Battle of Seringapatam.
