Detailed Solution

The distance reduced between India and Europe by the construction of the Suez Canal is 7,000 Km. Earlier, the distance was 19,800 kilometres which was reduced to 11,600 kilometers. Constructed in the year 1869, the waterway in Egypt connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Through this canal, trade between Europe and Asia flourished. It provides a direct route for cargo and ships between the North Atlantic and the North Indian Ocean via the Mediterranean Sea. The trade done through the Suez Canal accounts for around 12% of the global trade. There are no locks in the path of the Suez Canal. There are twenty-four hours of navigation and there are a minimum of accidents reported, which makes the Suez Canal the favorite of traders.
