How much does it cost to study in IIT?

It costs around ₹8 – ₹10 lakh to study a 4-year B.Tech course in IIT, including tuition, hostel, and mess charges for General/OBC students.

The cost of studying in IIT depends on the student’s category and family income. For students belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories, tuition fees are fully waived, making the cost much lower (₹2 – ₹3 lakh only, mostly hostel and mess). General category students from low-income families also get partial tuition fee waivers. This makes IITs financially accessible despite the high fees.
