Detailed Solution

Twenty-seven per cent of reservations are given to OBCs in government jobs.
On August 7 1990, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, the then Prime Minister, announced that Other Back Classes (OBCs) would receive 27%  bookings on central government services and public sector units. The announcement was made in the presence of both Houses of Parliament. The decision was based on a report presented on December 31, 1980, which recommended bookings for OBCs in government services and higher education. The recommendation was made by the Mandal Commission, which was established in 1979 under the government of Morarji Desai and its chairman B.P. Mandal. In 1979, it was owned by B.P. Mandal, a former Bihar prime minister.
