Let each side of the square be x.
The sides of the square are getting increased by 25%, so the new side will be x+25%x .
New side= x+ 25 100 x
= 100x+25x 100 = 125x 100
= 5x 4
We have to find the increase in area for which we will subtract the area of a square with the new side from the area of the square with the original side.
Increase in area = 5x 4 2 x 2
= 25 x 2 16 x 2
= 25 x 2 16 x 2 16
= 9 x 2 16 or 56.25 x 2
So, the area of the square increases by 56.25%.
Hence, option 2 is correct.
