Detailed Solution

concept - Valency is the number of electrons an atom required to achieve a stable octet configuration. If the last shell contains more than 4, it accepts electrons otherwise it loses electrons for stability.
The valency of a given atom can be determined following the octet rule The octet rule refers to the tendency of atoms to prefer eight electrons in the valence shell. When atoms have fewer than eight electrons, they tend to react to form more stable compounds. If the number of electrons in the outer shell is between one to four, the valency is the same as the number of valence electrons.
For compounds with electrons 4-7 valence electrons, the valency is calculated by subtracting the electrons from eight.
Hence, the correct option is (1).
