Detailed Solution

The forest act affected firms trading in timber. Nomadic and local people were allowed to go inside the forest premise and forced to work under the government on plantations. Trade in forest products was not new in India. The tribal communities traded resins, gum, grass, fibre, spices, bamboo, ivory, silk cocoons, horns, skins, etc., through the Banjaras (nomadic communities). After the British colonised India, trade was controlled by the colonial government.
