Hugo de Vries theory of mutation:

The mutation theory given by Hugo de Vries suggested that evolution is fueled by the occurrence of the discontinuous process called mutation. It arises in the genetic material and are transmitted to the next generation. It is served as the raw material for evolution as they provide a selective advantage to an individuals. The selective advantage would allow an individual to reproduce successfully and therefore, the natural selection would lead to evolution. Hence, Hugo di Vries theory of mutation does not rule out natural selection theory.
