Detailed Solution

Heterodont is a term used to refer to the presence of different types of teeth. Human beings have four types of teeth – canines, incisors, molars, and premolars. The different types of teeth, each having a specific function, gives the name heterodont to human teeth. Incisors are the front teeth that help to cut the food, and canines on either side of the incisors tear the food. The premolars and molars crush and grind the food into a paste. Primary or childhood teeth consist of four incisors, two canines, and four molars on each jaw. Permanent teeth have four incisors, two canines, four premolars, and six molars on each jaw, constituting 32 teeth.
