Detailed Solution

H:O

Mass ratio = 2g : 16g

H:C

Mass ratio = 2g : 6g

According to law of reciprocal proportions different weights of two elements (C, O) combining  with fixed weight of third element (H) bear the same ratio (or) multiple (or) sub multiple ratio  when they (C, O) combine with each other. Thus in the above case for  fixed weight of hydrogen (2g) the weight of 'C' and 'O' combines is '6g' and '16g' respectively, When they combine with each other the weight of carbon must be 6g (or) multiple (or) submultiple of '6g' and that of 'O' must be 16g (or) multiple (or) submultiple of 16g

\therefore if they combine with same weight ratio then the weight ratio must be 6:16
