Chain growth polymerization involves most of the additional reaction polymerization. The growing chains do not react with each other and no small molecule is liberated.

Example: Polyethylene, polystyrene, orlon etc.

Step growth polymerization involves most of the condensation reaction polymerization. It is a stepwise reaction between functional groups of monomers.

Example: Polyester, dacron etc.
