Detailed Solution

The major cotton cultivating state marked on the map is Maharashtra.
Cotton is a very important fibre crop in India. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana have cotton cultivation. Cotton comes under the Kharif crop, but in Tamil Nadu, it is grown both as a Kharif crop and a rabi crop. It grows best in the black soil of the Deccan Plateau. Because of this reason, black soil is also known as black cotton soil. Frost hampers the growth of the cotton crop, so it needs at least 210 frost-free days. It requires about 50-200 cm of rainfall and a high temperature of about 21- 30° C to grow well.
