Professor Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel Prize in Peace in 2006. His receipt of the Nobel Prize is due to his foundation of Grameen Bank. Soon, the Grameen Bank spread over 81600 villages across Bangladesh, and with over 9 million members in 2018, it quickly became one of the biggest success stories in reaching the poor to meet their credit needs. The primary borrowers from Grameen Bank have primarily women and people belonging to the poorest sections of society.
