The given trigonometric equation is,

17 cos A = 8

⇒ cos A = 817

We know that,

cos θ = B H

⇒ B H = 817 = k (say) ⇒ B = 8 k, H = 17 k

Using Pythagoras theorem, we have,

H 2 = P 2 + B 2 ⇒ P 2 = 17 k 2 − 8 k 2 ⇒ P 2 = 225 k 2 ⇒ P = 15 k

We know the trigonometric ratio,

sec θ = H B ⇒ sec θ = 17 k 8 k = 178

and cos e c θ = H P ⇒ cos e c θ = 17 k 15 k = 1715

Therefore we have,

15 c o s e c A − 8 sec B = 15 × 1715 − 8 × 1715 ⇒ 11915

Therefore, the value of the trigonometric expression

15 cosec A − 8 sec B = 11915 .
