Detailed Solution

Given, 8 taps of the same size fill a tank in 27 minutes and two taps go out of order.
Total number of taps = 8.
If two taps get out of order then only 6 taps will be left working.
Time taken by 8 taps to fill the tank =27 minutes  .  Let the time taken by 6 taps to fill the tank be x minutes.
Then,

Time taken (in minutes)

27

x

Number of taps

8

6

We can clearly observe that, lesser the number of taps, more time will be taken to fill the tank.
Therefore, this is the case of inverse proportion.
As this is case of inverse proportion, therefore the product will remain constant throughout table that is,
27×8=x×6   Solving the equation,
6x=216 x= 216 6 x=36   Hence, the time taken by 6 taps to fill the tank is 36 minutes.
Therefore, option 1 is correct.
