The given vertices of quadrilateral ABCD, A(-5,7), B(-4,-5), C(-1,-6) and D(4, 5) .
The area of the quadrilateral is found by summing up the area of 2 triangles ΔABC   and ΔDAC  .

  = 1 2 {5×1+(4)×(13)12} = 1 2 (5+5212) = 35 2 sq.units   Area of ΔDAC
= 1 2 {4×13+(5)×(11)(2)} = 1 2 (52+55+2) = 109 2 sq.units  
Area of the Quadrilateral ABCD
=Area of ΔABC + Area of ΔDAC =( 35 2 + 109 2 )sq.units = 144 2 sq.units =72sq.units  
Area of the Quadrilateral ABCD is 72 sq.units.
Hence, the correct option is 1.
