Given (a ‒ b), a, and (a + b) are zeroes of the polynomial, 2 x 3 6 x 2 +5x7

For any cubic polynomial of the form p(x)=a x 3 +b x 2 +cx+d , with zeroes as α, βand γ , the relation between the zeroes and the coefficients is given as,

α+β+γ=ba -----(1)

αβ+βγ+γα=ca -----(2)

αβγ=da -----(3)

Comparing with the general form, the coefficients of the polynomial are a = 2, b = –6, c = 5 and d = –7, and its zeros are α=(ab), β=a and γ=(a+b)

Substituting the values in equation (1), we have,

ab+a+a+b=3

3a=3

a=1

So, the value of a is 1.
