Detailed Solution

If a bar magnet is suspended using a thread, then the magnet takes a north-south direction.
The magnets have two poles North and South, and if they are hanging freely then they take the North-South direction similarly, if a bar magnet is suspended freely using a thread, then the magnet takes North-South direction. A suspended bar magnet will usually come to rest in the north-south direction. When a magnet is freely hanging, its north pole is attracted by the magnetic south polarity of the Earth and points north.
