A magnetic compass is made up of a bar magnet. It is used to find the directions on the surface of the earth. It contains a magnetic pointer that aligns itself with the earth’s magnetic field. When we place the compass near the north pole of the magnet, it points away as the repulsion takes place. When the compass is placed near the south pole of the magnet, it points towards the south pole. So, the compass shows deflection.
