Detailed Solution

If an atom is having an equal number of protons and electrons then the substance is called electrically neutral.
Examples of electrically neutral substances are salt, sodium and chlorine. If the overall charge on an atom is zero then the atom will be electrically neutral. If an atom is having a larger number of protons than electrons then the atom will be positively charged because the proton has a positive charge. If an atom has a large number of electrons then the atom will be negatively charged because the electron has a negative charge.
