Detailed Solution

Concept- The length of the garden is 20m. To solve this question, we will assume the width of the rectangular garden to be “w” and length to be “l”. Based on the condition mentioned in the question, we will find out the relation between “w” and “l” and then, we will use the relation in the formula of the “Perimeter of a Rectangle” to form an equation in terms of one of the variables considered.
If  the width of the garden =x metre
Then length=(x+4) metre
Half perimeter =36 m
So perimeter of garden =(2×36)=72 metres
According to the question
2(l+b)=72
2(x+x+4)=72
2x+2x+4=74
4x=64
⇒x=16 metres
Hence,the width of the garden =16 metres
The length of the garden =(16+4)=20 metres
