Let us consider a body of mass m on the surface of the earth. 

The gravitational force on it F=mg ------(1)

By Newton's law of gravitation:

F is also equal to  GMmR2------(2)

So, equating 1 and 2 gives 

mg=GMmR2

 On rearranging,   gG=MR2
