Detailed Solution

If the accused is convicted then the judge pronounces the sentence.
A court of law determines whether or not an accused person is guilty once arrested. The Constitution mandates that any person accused of a crime get a fair trial. The judge conducts the trial impartially and in public, much like an umpire does during a sporting event. The judge hears all witnesses and other evidence offered by the prosecution and the defence. Based on the facts given and in compliance with the law, the judge determines whether the accused is guilty or innocent. If the defendant is found guilty, the judge imposes the punishment. Depending on what the law requires, he could give jail time, a fine, or both to the offender.
