When the area of the cross-section of a wire is doubled, its resistance gets halved. The resistance of a conductor is inversely proportional to its area of cross-section. That is,
      R1A ,  (Where R is resistance and A is the area of the cross-section of the conductor).
So if we increase the wire's thickness, the resistance of the wire will decrease, and if we decrease the thickness of the wire resistance of the wire will increase. So this means a thick wire has less resistance, and a thin wire has more resistance.
