If the key in the arrangement (figure given below) is taken out (the circuit is made open) and magnetic field lines are drawn over the horizontal plane ABCD, the lines are  

 In an open circuit, no current will flow through the wire and hence no magnetic field will exist around the conductor.
The magnetic compass will be under only earth’s magnetic field and will direct from geographical south to the geographical north on the horizontal plane ABCD.
