Given: If the list price of a toy is reduced by Rs. 2, a person can buy 2 toys more for Rs. 360.
Assume the number of toys as x and the price as y.
Therefore

⇒ x y = 360 ⇒ x = 360 y

Evaluate

x y + 2 y − 2 x − 4 = 360

⇒ 360 y (y) + 2 y − 2 360 y − 4 = 360 ⇒ 360 + 2 y − 720 y − 4 = 360 ⇒ 2 y − 720 y − 4 = 0 ⇒ 2 y 2 − 720 − 4 y = 0

⇒ y 2 − 20 y + 18 y − 360 = 0 ⇒ y (y + 18) − 20 (y + 18) = 0 ⇒ (y + 18) (y − 20) = 0 ⇒ y + 18 = 0 or y − 20 = 0 ⇒ y = − 18, 20

The cost of the toys cannot be negative.
So, the original price of the toy is Rs 20.
