We have been given that the population of a city has decreased from 25,000 to 24,500.
We know that,

P o p u l a t i o n D e c r e a s e = I n i t i a l P o p u l a t i o n - F i n a l P o p u l a t i o n

% D e c r e a s e i n p o p u l a t i o n = P o p u l a t i o n d e c r e a s e I n i t i a l p o p u l a t i o n × 100 %

From the given data, we have,
Initial population = 25000.
Final population = 24500.
Therefore, population decrease = 25000 – 24500 = 500.
Find the % Decrease in population.

% D e c r e a s e i n p o p u l a t i o n = 50025000 × 100 % = 5000025000 = 2 %

Therefore, the percentage of the population decreased by 2%.
Hence, option (1) is correct.
