The thickness of a pile of 12 cardboards

= 65 mm

.
Let the thickness of a pile of 312 cardboards be x mm. Then,

Thickness (in mm)	65	x
Number of cardboards	12	312

We can clearly observe that, the more the number of cardboards, the more will be the thickness of a pile.
Therefore, this is the case of direct proportion.
As this is the case of direct proportion, therefore the ratio will remain constant throughout the table that is,

6512 = x 312

Cross multiplying,

65 × 312 = 12 × x

Solving for x,

x = 312 × 65 12 x = 1690

Hence, the thickness of a pile of 312 cardboards is 1690 mm.
