If we accept May’s global estimates and apply them to the species diversity in India, how many species are awaiting their discovery by scientists? 

If we accept May’s global estimates, only 22 percent of the total species have been recorded so far. Applying this proportion to India’s diversity figures, we estimate that there are probably more than 1,00,000 plant species and more than 3,00,000 animal species yet to be discovered and described.
