Given: x – y = 2 … (i)
x + y = 4 … (ii)
Adding equations (i) and (ii), we get

2x = 6 or x = 3
Substituting the value of x in equation (i), we get

3 – y = 2

⇒ y = 3 – 2

⇒ y = 1

Therefore, the value of a and b will be:
a = 3 and b = 1
