Let the number be x .
Subtract the

\frac{1}{2}

from number =

(x - \frac{1}{2})

Multiply it by

\frac{1}{2}

\frac{1}{2} \times (x - \frac{1}{2})

According to the question

\frac{1}{2} \times (x - \frac{1}{2}) = \frac{1}{8}

x = \frac{1}{2} = \frac{2}{8}

x = \frac{1}{2} + \frac{1}{4}

x = \frac{3}{4}
