The given expression is  p2+6p-16 . 

It can be factorised using the identity, x2+(a+b)x+ab

Here, a+b=6 and a×b=-16

Therefore, we can say that a=8 and b=-2.

So, p2+6p-16 can be written as:

p2+6p-16=p2+8p-2p-16

                        = p(p+8)-2(p+8)          [by taking common terms]    

                           =(p+8) (p-2)

Now, on comparing we get, 

(p+8) (p-2)=(p+x) (p-y)

x=8 and y=2

Hence, the respective values of x and y are 8,2.
