Detailed Solution

In 1916 Mahatma Gandhi travelled to Champaran in Bihar to inspire the peasants to struggle against the oppressive plantation system. Gandhiji visited Champaran in Bihar in 1916 and championed the cause of underprivileged peasants fighting the exploitation of indigo planters. During the British colonial period, a farmer's insurrection occurred in the Champaran region of Bihar, India. Farmers were outraged because they had to plant indigo for little or no pay. Gandhi returned from South Africa to see Indigo planters oppressing peasants in Northern India. He planned to utilise the same strategies to mobilise people in enormous upheavals against injustice in South Africa.
