Detailed Solution

In 1665 the English East India Company shifted its headquarters to Bombay. The English factory at Hugli was established in Bengal in about 1650. Hopewell surgeon Gabriel Boughton treated the Mughal Governor, and as a result, the business enjoyed better commercial arrangements, including the payment of fixed terms. In 1665, Bombay was granted to the East India Company in exchange for a yearly payment of 10 pounds to the government. In 1667, they were granted a firman by the Mughal Emperor to carry on business in Bengal. In 1687, the British East India Company relocated its main office from Surat to Bombay in the same year. These elements prompted the East India Company to move its main office to Bombay.
