In 1845, weavers in Silesia led a revolt.
Cotton weaving was a very common occupation in Silesia. In 1845, the Silesian weavers rose in protest against the contractors who had supplied them with raw materials for an order of finished textiles due to the farmer's massive payment reduction. A group of weavers marched to the contractors' mansion to protest the injustice. One section of the group harmed the latter's property. The contractor requested assistance from the army, and violence erupted, killing eleven weavers. Wilhelm Wolff, a journalist, described the entire scenario and depicted the facts surrounding the events. He attempted to demonstrate the link between corrupt contractors and state institutions at the time. As a result, the journalist's perspective was generally sympathetic to weavers, depicting them in deplorable conditions.
