Detailed Solution

In April 1917, Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the Bolshevik Party, returned to Russia after a decade in exile to lead the Russian Revolution. Lenin recruited the Red Guards and other Bolshevik forces, which gained power during the October Revolution. They opposed the Provisional Government of Alexander Kerensky and Russia's prolonged involvement in World War I. Even though Lenin was regarded at the time as an out-of-touch zealot, his return was critical to the revolution's organisation and historical trajectory.
