In 1928, Motilal Nehru drafted a Constitution for India.
This was the first attempt of Indians at drafting a Constitution on their own. However, this happened due to the challenge proposed by the Britishers when the Simon Commission came to India in 1927, two years before the schedule. There were protests against them in the whole country. It was then that they had challenged to prepare a constitution accepted by all.
