In [[1]] reaction, an electrophile replaces the functional group in a compound but not the hydrogen atom. 

An electron-deficient species is known as an electrophile. Electrophiles are always ready to accept electrons as they are electron-loving molecules, atoms or ions. HBr, HCl and HI are some of the electrophiles. In an electrophilic substitution reaction, the functional group in a compound is replaced by an electrophile but it does not replace the hydrogen atom. The hydrogen atom is the displaced functional group.
